It’s a genuine gift walking in the early sunrise on the Camino de Santiago; witnessing the beautiful gift of a new day breaking in! Summer, with its vibrant exuberance, is a great time to journey together on this enchanting path. The warm hues, bright colors, and a symphony of birds singing fill the air, while a still coolness heartens the unfolding morning. The warmth of the encroaching day quickly kindles the appetite, making the ensuing coffee breaks and meals a delightful pleasure for the palate. As we pad along under the serene canopied path, it ushers in the quietness needed to be fully present to the surroundings, allowing us to move forward purposefully in the gentle calm that accompanies us.

As summer gradually fades away and the landscape begins to turn into a mosaic of warm hues, pilgrims find a unique sense of peace on the Camino . Autumn generously offers the pilgrim both a visual and physical reminder that change is indeed in the air. As the temperatures drop, moments of solitude are discovered while immersed in the pleasant and reflective long walk towards the historic Santiago de Compostela. The familiar sounds of footfalls become quieter as the dryness of high summer gives way to the still gentleness of the coming Fall. The crispness in the air invigorates and enlivens the pilgrim’s steps as they make their winding way along the charming path ahead.

Autumn is in full swing with brisk days and chilly nights, but perfect for the extended daily sojourns on the Camino. The mornings inspire body movement to get warm… not to worry, because in short order the rises and falls of the Galician hills quickly get the blood flowing! One of the great joys of walking at this time of the year is the delicious treat of a steaming bowl of delightful Galician soup (Caldo Gallego) with a side order of fresh Galician bread for dipping. Whether you’re walking the trail, writing a journal, sipping a café or simply enjoying the solitude and beauty, sauntering on this sacred path in the Autumn is surely a walk to remember!
